Foodbank of the Heartland

May - June 2016

The summer program at the Foodbank consists of bagging grain and the food truck; we got to bag grain.

During the summer months, children area t home, so the foodbank delivers food in hoards to the local community organizers so that they can deliver them to families in n eeds. Much like an icecream truck, the foodbank has a food truck that cruises through neighborhoods handing out food to children.

Feeding the hungry in Omaha

Working the School Back Pack Lunch program

This day started off a little behind due to some bus complications. After we got on the road and arrived at the Food bank of the Heartland, we had a brief orientation with Sarah. Afterwards, the group of 20 were able to put together bags of lunches that would feed a group of school children for the weekend. Each student was able to put together 13.2 bags in 35 short minutes. Our classes really worked swiftly and efficiently to pack a pallet full of bagged lunches, about 48 boxes of 8 bags. We are very proud of our students!

Oct - Dec 2015 Service Learning classes

Students averaged 32.5 bags per hour during the 1.5 hours that they worked at the Foodbank for the Heartland.

Their determination to put together as many back pack lunches was overwhelming as they pushed themselves to reach their goal!
